Medical travel
Regenerative and wellness treatments: where we stand.
We are asked about this regularly, so here is a straight answer rather than a brochure. It is not the answer most companies in this space give, and we would rather you knew why before you spend money — with us or with anyone.
The short version.
We do not arrange travel for treatments that are not authorised for that use by a health regulator in the country where they are delivered. Cell-based therapies, exosome products, intravenous wellness infusions and the commonly marketed peptides fall outside that line almost everywhere in the world, including here. So we will not list them, price them, describe them, recommend them, or send you to anyone who offers them.
Why we take this position
It is not squeamishness and it is not a view about the underlying science, which is genuinely interesting and genuinely early. It is that the regulatory position is unambiguous in every market our travellers come from, and the honest reading of it leaves a travel company no room to help.
No cell-based or exosome product has marketing approval for these uses in Colombia, the United States, the United Kingdom, the European Union or Australia. Compounded intravenous preparations and compounded peptides are, under Colombian rules, preparaciones magistrales — a category that carries an absolute prohibition on advertising. In the United Kingdom the advertising regulator has ruled against the entire vocabulary of intravenous wellness marketing. In the United States, the remedy in the leading enforcement case in this sector was a permanent ban on advertising or selling any regenerative medicine treatment, by any means, for life.
A company that tells you it has found a way around all of that has either not looked, or is hoping you will not.
What we will not do
- Advertise, list, price, describe or recommend any cell-based, exosome, IV-wellness or peptide treatment.
- Refer you to a clinic that offers them, or introduce you to one.
- Take a commission, referral fee or revenue share from any clinic offering them.
- Build a package around one, bundle one into a VIP itinerary, or accept one as a complimentary hotel-partner upgrade.
- Tell you whether one is right for you, or offer any view on whether it works.
What we can still do
- Arrange flights, ground transport and accommodation for a trip you have already arranged yourself.
- Book a certified medical interpreter for appointments you have already scheduled.
- Arrange companion travel and logistics.
- Show you how to check any Colombian facility in REPS and any physician in ReTHUS, so you can verify independently.
- Tell you plainly, as below, what the regulators actually say — including the parts a clinic will not tell you.
In other words: if you have independently chosen a clinic, been accepted by it, and have a confirmed appointment in writing at a facility registered in REPS, we can book your flights and your hotel exactly as we would for a holiday — at the same prices, with no commission from anyone, and with no involvement in the clinical side whatsoever.
If you are going to do this anyway
Plenty of people will, and we would rather you did it with your eyes open than not hear it from us. Four things worth doing:
Check the facility in REPS and the physician in ReTHUS yourself.
Both registries are public and free, and take about four minutes. Registration is the legal minimum to operate — it is not a quality mark, and it says nothing about whether a particular therapy is approved. But its absence tells you everything.
Ask what the product actually is, and who released it.
Ask for the identity, purity, sterility and endotoxin testing on the specific preparation you would receive, and who performed it. A clinic that cannot answer that in writing is not one to receive an injection from.
Tell your own doctor before you go, not after.
Your home physician may disagree, and may decline to manage complications arising from a treatment they did not advise. That is a conversation to have while you can still change your mind, and it is the CDC’s standing advice for anyone travelling for care.
Assume your insurance covers none of it.
Not the treatment, and — more importantly — not the complications after you fly home. Price the downside, not just the procedure.
