The high capital
Nine million people on a cold Andean plateau at 2,640 metres, wedged against a wall of green mountains. Bogotá is Colombia’s brain — its museums, its politics, its argument with itself — and it rewards anyone willing to walk it slowly. The gold, the graffiti and the salt cathedral are all within an hour of each other.
The valley that rebuilt itself
A city of red brick stacked up the walls of a narrow green valley, where public cable cars run as commuter transport and a hillside barrio that was once a war zone is now covered in murals. Medellín is the easiest city in Colombia to fall for — 22 °C every day of the year, and a civic story worth understanding properly.
The sea of seven colours
A 26 km² coral island 750 km off the Colombian coast and only 190 km from Nicaragua, where the first language is Creole English, the food is Caribbean, and the water genuinely does separate into distinct bands of turquoise, jade and navy. It sits inside the Seaflower Biosphere Reserve, above the third-largest barrier reef on earth.

Bogotá and Medellín pair naturally — an hour by air, and a complete change of climate and character. Adding San Andrés turns a city trip into a proper Colombia trip, and it is the one people wish they had booked longer.
